Lyrics Roundup

Whilst perusing through some blog posts this week, I came across this post from Because I’m Addicted, which turned out to be a compilation of inspirational quotes that the author, Geri, loved! So I thought to myself “what a great idea!” Which then lead to “how can I make that original?” So, this week on Aesthetically Unpleasing, I am going to roundup 10 of my favorite lyrics for your reading pleasure! I’m going to do my best to give somewhat of an explanation along with each lyric, but how can I articulate any better what these song writers have already done so well? So go grab a snack, pull up YouTube, and go listen to a new song from my list! Comment some of your favorite lyrics!

“Time won’t fly it’s like I’m paralyzed by it. I’d like to be my old self again, but I’m still trying to find it” – All Too Well, Taylor Swift. This song reminds me of driving in the car with my best friends and absolutely screaming along to the words of this, quite possible the most iconic of all, song from Taylor Swift’s album Red. This line, without fail, gives me chills every single time I listen to the song.

“Oh simple thing, where have you gone?” –Somewhere Only We Know, Keane. If you have ever watched a drama on the CW, you have heard this song. I first heard this song in the background of Grey’s Anatomy. It has lived in every playlist I have ever made since then.

“I think I might give up everything, just ask me to” – If I could Fly, One Direction. Yes, I am that girl. I love One Direction with my whole heart. Harry Styles wrote this song, and it is sung so beautifully. This song might be their most sophisticated of them all, as well as showcased all of their voices and pure talent. Listen to this one with headphones and zone out for a second. It’s an experience. (That has nothing to do with the lyrics, but I could have picked any lyric from this song, it’s that good.)

“No reason running after something already gone.” –Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye, Luke Bryan. A life lesson all it’s own. I took this as learn to let go. Not the easiest lesson. Way easier said than done.

“I don’t quite know how to say how I feel” –Chasing Cars, Snow Patrol. Literally me trying to describe why I love all of these lyrics. Seriously though, one of the most iconic songs. Of all time. Ever.

“I told to to be patient. I told you to be fine. I told you to be balanced. I told you to be kind.” –Skinny Love, Birdy. This one makes me cry every single time. Not sure why. But, I think this lyric is a great one. Patient, fine, balanced, kind. Qualities to strive for.

“Show a little faith, there’s magic in the night” –Thunder Road, Bruce Springsteen. I could have made this post entirely of Springsteen lyrics that I love, but that would have been over-kill, I think. My family and I all have one thing in common, Bruce Springsteen. I’ve been to more Springsteen concerts than I could count. I know all of his songs, but Thunder Road has been my favorite since I was little. This lyric was what was written on my cap when I graduated high school! Just a very special song.

“I don’t worry about nothing, no, because worrying’s a waste of my time”- Mr. Brownstone, Guns N Roses. Worrying is a waste of time. I worry about EVERYTHING. So when I worry to the point that I cannot breathe, I try and remember that it’s nothing but a waste of time!

“Today’s music ain’t got the same soul, I like that old time rock and roll” –Old Time Rock & Roll, Bob Seger. While listening to this in the car with my best friend, this line got us both talking about how music from when out parents were our age was so much better than music is now. Just our opinion, but music back then just feels more wholesome than music does now. Maybe it’s just me!

“You may be right, I may be crazy” –You May Be Right, Billy Joel. Do I need to explain this one?
